Mr. Gears,
Thank you for helping me create future generations of leaders in my
family. Below is a letter to anyone who is thinking of attending your
school.
The real value of martial arts training at Jeff Gears’ Premier Martial
Arts School goes beyond the kicking, punching and self-defense
techniques that are taught there. My name is Chris Smith and I have been
a student at several Martial Arts schools throughout the country. Not to
mention several in the Toledo area alone. I have just earned my Black
Belt at your school and I have 3 of my 5 children attending the school
also. My daughter Foster is 9 and has her black belt, (she started when
she was four, more about her later…) although the things I mentioned
above are important to learn, the real lessons learned extend beyond the
physical self defense tactics taught. At Premier particular attention is
paid to creating great people, with great attitudes. Most schools I have
encountered have gone through the motions and preached such traits as
self-discipline and self-confidence, but at Premier it is not just lip
service. Premier’s curriculum is based on teaching these skills to its
students. Another huge difference is the instructors are well-trained
individuals who are actually trained to bring the best out each student.
This is contrary to other schools that use untrained students, who may
be great martial artists, but are inexperienced teachers. There is a
difference and it does matter.
Now back to my daughter, as a father I cannot say I could be more proud.
It is obvious that the training that Foster started receiving at the age
of 4 has helped mold her into the fine young girl she is today. She is
well liked and respected by her peers, a great student, and her overall
self confidence in trying new things can definitely be attributed to the
lessons learned at Premier. I am starting to see similar results my
other 2 children who also attend the school.
As I have passed this on to my children, I am hoping they do the same
for theirs. Although we cannot live our children’s lives for them, we
can set the foundation for future success, and Premier Martial Arts will
help pave this road for future generations. I recommend your school to
everyone.
Thanks again,
Chris Smith

Mr. Gears
Martial arts has been a tremendous confidence and discipline builder for
Emily. Three years ago when Kassandra Schultz suggested martial arts
although we were unfamiliar with the activity and art form. We
investigated and checked it out. Emily is not assertive, in the
beginning of her experiences with martial arts she displayed an
assertive spirit and desire to push herself along.
This was a real jump start in her confidence building. The intermediate
stages were an activity in her discipline building. This was the
struggle to come to class and practice at home. This has transferred
itself to her schoolwork as well. We can remind Emily about the benefits
of practice and pay-off of attendance and consistency.
Although Emily is a smiling and perpetually happy child, much more
likely to laugh at a situation, Martial Arts has started her on the road
to focus and a more serious attitude about facing situations and problem
solving.
Retention of directions in sequence and information processing has
helped her school focus too. Emily has some educational limitations,
school has challenges for her. Her martial arts experiences have carried
over to school. She does better with activity in sequence and following
directions.
Earning a Black Belt has been a goal setting process for Emily. Having a
long term goal and seeing it to completion at the age of 11 is a huge
success and confidence builder that will remain with her for a very long
time.
Thanking you for helping our daughter achieve success

Our son being in your martial arts program has helped him become more
confident in school and more focused in school also. The program also
helped him control the anger issues he had in the past. Kelvin really
enjoys working with your instructors. Thank you Mr. Gears for believing
in our son and teaching him the skills that will help him in the future.

Enrolling at Jeff Gears Premier Martial Arts has given me chance to do
something I’ve always believed I could do. I’ve never had a chance to
prove to myself just how mentally and physically strong I am. I’m very
grateful for the encouragement of the instructors and fellow students.
I’ve been able to apply our Black Belt Leadership physical and
Instructor skills to situations outside of the academy.
I’m in the best physical and mental condition of my adult life. If
someone had told me 15 years ago that I’d earn a Black Belt at age 38,
I’d have laughed. But my attempt has motivated friends of mine, male and
female to venture out and try something new. I’m grateful for this time
and this place.

I’ve written before about when I started I could only do 25 jumping
jacks and nine push ups from my knees. So the physical side has been
huge in terms of self confidence. I hate to think what I’d be like
physically without karate training.
But as we all know, it is the mental side that comes from the
physically challenging oneself that is the payoff. I know that I can dig
in and refocus.
I know that I choose to keep challenging myself and that spills over
into other areas of my life, making me willing to start new endeavors,
giving me a richer life. And knowing that I can tap into that warrior
spirit has also given me courage. Thanks!

Earning a Black Belt gave me confidence and everything else that is
suppose to come with a Black Belt. Working towards my second degree only
made me realize how very little I actually know about karate. By working
towards 3rd degree my foundation skills were good enough that finally
the application of certain techniques was making sense. Working on these
physical skills, it helps you to work on your mental skills. If you
goals in one aspect of your life, then goals in other aspects of your
life start to fall into play. It’s true, that in karate the mental
heavily outweighs the physical. Thank you for all of these things.

Mr. Gears
We feel very blessed to have our children in your class. You are so good
with the kids and they react very well to you. I have learned a lot by
watching class. For example how to get them to do things the right way
by encouragement VS critical corrective statements. They are learning a
lot not just in technique, but also in moral and respectful behavior &
it’s sticking.
You give personal attention and & pay attention to where they are with
their skills & quick to help them if they have incorrect form, so good
habits can be formed.
Thank you for sharing your passion, skill and moral beliefs with our
children.

Looking back, I can easily see how earning my Black Belt and then
sticking with it until now has had a major influence on the out come of
my life. Martial arts taught me self discipline, importantly in a way
that was fun. I was always able to push myself and set higher goals
(another thing I learned here) making the road to becoming essentially a
better person, an enjoyable and more manageable one. I know I” find
myself very glad I came here, and I appreciate very much the time Master
Gears spends with me. Thank you.
Justin Ferdon age 25 Black Belt 3rd Degree Instructor
Martial arts had always been a part of my life since high school but I
was not able to fulfill the experience until I started working with my
sensai and the MAA staff here. Learning by reading and learning by doing
impart two different kinds of knowledge. By doing, I was able to spot
those deficiencies in me that I know should not be there in the vision
of the ideal individual , a goal I am continually striving for. My
inherent nature is that of a quiet and gentle person. Training has
taught me that all behavior whether gentle or firm, needs to be
manipulated to suit the situation at hand. For the desired outcome, to
be a force for good, one needs to maintain self-control and may need to
defy those inherent tendencies.
Than you Sensei Gears and all my instructors for helping me learn.
It’s been a wonderful journey

In the two months my five year old daughter Aubrey has attended Jeff
Gears Premier Martial Arts in Toledo Ohio we have noticed many positive
changes in her behavior and attitude. The program offers a positive
outlook on oneself and builds great strength mentally, physically and
emotionally.
We are very proud and honored to send her to a program that builds
self-esteem, and respect for her self and towards others.
The instructors are incredible in their positions as leaders being
motivators, positive re-directors and very patient.
I highly recommend the program to anyone who is looking for a positive
change in his or her life or their child.
