Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the PMA MMA-Toledo self defense and mixed martial arts curriculum, and have attained a high level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and mentors for our students.

Through extensive training, testing and Certification, our Instructor Staff has attained the skills and expertise to bring out the best in each student. We enjoy sharing and passing on our mixed martial arts knowledge to our students.

Master Gears

Master GearsJeff Gears:

Master Gears is considered one of the nations leading martial arts instructors. He is a 6th degree black belt having earned his Black Belt in 1979. Master Gears is also certified in Escrima, Pressure Sensitive Nerve Areas, and Krav Maga.

During his competitive career he was a national champion accomplishments include two time Diamond Nationals Winner, Multiple winner of the Battle of Atlanta, Grand Champion AKA Grand National and Middleweight champion at the Bermuda International Grand Championships. Master Gears was also a member of the Transworld Oil, SES and Team Paul Mitchell karate teams. Master Gears is also a member of the Ohio Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Since retiring from competition Master Gears passion for the martial arts is directed towards teaching his students not only only the martial arts, but also the leadership skills to ensure their success in all areas of their life.

Master Gears was born, raised and continues to live in Toledo with his wife Dawn and their two children.


Looking back, I can easily see how earning my Black Belt and then sticking with it until now has had a major influence on the out come of my life. Martial arts taught me self discipline, importantly in a way that was fun. I was always able to push myself and set higher goals (another thing I learned here) making the road to becoming essentially a better person, an enjoyable and more manageable one. I know I” find myself very glad I came here, and I appreciate very much the time my instructors spent with me. Thank you.
